Who is Jesus?
There has been much debate over the answer to this question. In fact, Jesus is arguably the most discussed person of all time! Unfortunately, not everyone has the correct answer. The Bible does give us a clear understanding of what the truth is about Jesus.
The Bible describes Jesus as:
• The Way (John 14:6)
• The Truth (John 1:14-16)
• The Life (John 11:35)
• The Messiah (John 20:31)
• The Son of God (Matthew 16:16-17, John 5:18)
• The Good Shepherd (John 10:30)
Jesus is all those things and more. He is both God and Man. Jesus came to earth in the flesh and lived among the people. Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary, conceived of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 1:20, Luke 1:35). Jesus had a human body. He grew in wisdom and stature (Luke 2:52), he could eat and drink (John 19:28, Matt. 4:2). Jesus grew tired and was physically tortured for claiming to be Christ (John 4:6, Luke 23), He had a human mind (Hebrews 5:8), He had human emotions (John 12:27, 11:35), and people saw him as only a man (Mark 4:23-25). Jesus was totally human, 100 percent.
As much as Jesus was 100% human he was also 100% God. Jesus said, “I and the Father are one” (John 10:30, Colossians 2:9). In fact, Jesus is the exact representation of who God the Father is in human flesh. Because He was God, Jesus was without sin. He lived a sinless life. He is the only person ever to live a life without sin (2 Corinthians 5:21, Hebrews 4:15).
Since Jesus was both 100% God and 100% man at the same time, and he lived a perfect life without sin, he was able to finish the mission for coming to earth in the first place. That mission was “to seek and to save that which is lost” (Luke 19:10). Jesus’ life mission was to glorify the Father by becoming the perfect sacrifice for sinners. By willingly dying on the cross, Jesus took on the wrath of God and the punishment of sin for mankind. “He (Jesus) who knew no sin, became sin for us(mankind), so that we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:21). Jesus, after defeating sin by rising from the dead (three days after death) became the Savior of the world. He lived the perfect live we (as mankind) were supposed to live…except, He died for it! He died so that those who believe in Him will have eternal life (John 3:16). He takes our sin, and we get His righteousness!
What is our response? Confess to Him that you are a sinner in need of Jesus as your Savior (Rom 10:9, 10, Acts 16:31). And repent of your sins believing that Jesus is Lord.
